Overview

EazyFormat is a high-powered Google Docs add-on built to make document formatting faster, cleaner, and more consistent.

It combines academic style presets, reusable custom presets, advanced page setup, smart formatting protection, and integrated citation management in one sidebar workflow.

Whether you are preparing APA, MLA, Harvard, or Chicago/Turabian submissions, EazyFormat helps keep every page compliant and publication-ready from first draft to final version.

How to Do It

Start by opening EazyFormat from the Google Docs Extensions menu, then choose the workflow you need from the sidebar.

Use presets for instant document styling, citation tools for source management, and page setup controls for final polish before submission.

  • Install EazyFormat from Google Workspace Marketplace.
  • Open Google Docs and go to Extensions > EazyFormat > Open Sidebar.
  • Choose a preset, configure citations, and apply page setup based on your target requirements.
  • Use cleanup and formatting tools to finalize and standardize your document output.

Disadvantages

As with any document automation tool, there are practical considerations based on account setup and workflow complexity.

  • Requires Google Docs and the necessary add-on permissions to operate.
  • Multiple Google accounts in one browser can cause unstable add-on behavior; a dedicated browser profile is recommended.

From the sidebar, select a style from the "Select Style Preset" dropdown menu and click the "Apply" button. If you have a specific portion of your document selected, the style will apply only to that selection. Otherwise, it will format the entire document.

EazyFormat comes with four built-in style presets: APA, MLA, Chicago/Turabian, and Harvard. PRO users can create and save their own custom presets.

To create your own preset, first click the "Style Configuration" button in the sidebar. This will add a temporary page to the top of your document. Modify the styles of the "Heading 1", "Normal Text", etc. on that page. Once you're happy with the look, click the "Save" button in the sidebar, give your new preset a name, and it will be saved for future use.

You can use the "Import" (PRO Feature) and "Export" (CORE Feature) buttons in the sidebar. Exporting a preset will give you a block of text that you can save in your prefered file. To import, simply paste that text into the import dialog and give the preset a name.

Click the Plus Icon (+) in the Citation Management section of the sidebar to open the citation creation interface. Enter your citation details (ISBN, DOI, title, Keyword, etc.) to generate automatically or add create manually and click Save. The citation will be added to your list and can be inserted into your document at any time.

Pinning a citation makes it available across all your Google Docs documents. This is especially useful for frequently used sources like course materials or reference books.

The button with the mop icon runs a clean-up process that automatically removes unnecessary empty paragraphs from your document, helping to fix inconsistent spacing.

Expand the "Setup Custom Page" section in the sidebar. There you can input your desired page width, height, color, and margins in inches. Click "Apply" to see the changes.

Sometimes the premium status can take a few moments to sync. Please try closing and reopening the sidebar. If that doesn't work, closing and reopening the document will refresh your session and should unlock the PRO features. If you still have trouble, please contact us.

If you are a PRO user, the "PRO" label at the top of the sidebar is clickable. Clicking it will open a portal where you can manage your subscription details.

EazyFormat requires permission to read and modify your document's content and structure to apply formatting styles, create the style configuration page, and perform clean-up operations. We only access your data to perform the requested actions, and your information is never stored or shared. You can review our privacy policy for more details.
